On May 22, the groundbreaking ceremony of the HUST International Campus for Education and Scientific Innovation (Jushan International Campus) was officially held at the foot of Junshan Hill. Present at the ceremony were Liu Ziqing, Standing Committee Member of the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee, Tang Chao, Deputy Secretary of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ) Committee, Li Yuanyuan, Chair of the University Committee of HUST, Xie Xiaolin, Vice President of HUST, You Ruikai, Chair of the Board of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd., and Tang Zhaohui, Deputy Dean of Architectural Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology.

Liu Ziqing said that the Junshan International Campus of HUST would enhance Wuhan’s endeavor to build science and technology innovation centers with national influence and promote industrial transition and upgrading in WEDZ. He also urged relevant departments to adhere to high standards and strict requirements and ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

In his speech, Li Yuanyuan emphasized that the construction of the Junshan International Campus is a major strategy of HUST to deepen the reform of graduate education, expand international education cooperation, promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, and improve the quality of talent training. He said that HUST would continue to prioritize education and strive to build a world-class, innovative, and mordernized Junshan International Campus that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration.

Li Fangwu also delivered a speech. He said their company would adhere to the enterprise spirit of “striving for advanced technology and creating first-class management” and gather the best resources, teams, and technologies to build high-quality projects with high efficiency.

The HUST International Campus for Education and Scientific Innovation (Jushan International Campus) is located in the south of Junshan New City, covering a total area of about 1,366,000 square meters. Upon completion of the first phase, it is expected to accommodate 10,000 students, 1,200 faculty members, and 1,000 postdoctoral researchers.

The Junshan International Campus will include four clusters for interdisciplinary collaborative teaching and research, such as the Cluster of New Materials & Digital Manufacturing, Cluster of Information Technology & Artificial Intelligence, Cluster of Clean Energy & Environment Protection, Cluster of Life Science & Clinical Medicine. The Campus will also be home to institutes including the College of International Collaboration and National Elite Institute of Engineering. With the aim to strengthen the joint research of core technologies and to achieve more original and leading innovation outcomes, HUST strives to enhance scientific and technological breakthroughs, talent education, opening up, and regional development.
